Written and directed by Brad Anderson, the story focuses on five men removing asbestos and other hazardous materials from a huge, rambling mental hospital abandoned in 1985. Instead, it relies more on building psychological terror and drama rather than spending all of its time showing how the killer stalks and slaughters his or her hapless victims. SESSION 9 is not your typical psychotic killer movie. Regrettably, the movie succumbs to excessive disturbing violence at the end. In a clever twist at the end, the script tells viewers that evil lurks in “the weak and the wounded,” a category which includes all people. Ultimately, SESSION 9 is a treatise on the nature of evil. Until its violent ending, SESSION 9 builds tension mostly through sound effects, images of long dark corridors and spooky rooms, and the drama unfolding between the five men. Gordon’s inexperienced, rock-and-rolling young nephew rounds out the cast. Tension mounts between Gordon and Phil as a fourth worker, Mike, becomes obsessed with listening to spooky psychiatric sessions with a psychotic patient. Eventually, one of the workers, Hank, disappears after looking for treasure in the building one night. One of the scariest movies Ive seen in years! Too bad there werent more gems out there like this one.SESSION 9 is a psychological horror movie about five men removing asbestos and other hazardous materials from a huge mental hospital abandoned in 1985. The movie draws you in further with each passing minute, with the use of bone-chilling sound effects and quick-flashing images as well as a script that is served well by an excellent cast. The Kubrick-like camera work, the incredible score, and the especially creepy set, filmed in a real abandoned mental hospital, all amount for one stylish and entertaining scare. Session 9 is a well-crafted, well thought-out spook of a movie that leaves a chill with you well after its thrilling conclusion. The voices of Billy, the Princess, and Simon all 3 of the personalities really sent chills all over my body! My FAVORITE parts were those in which one of the characters listens to the old recorded sessions of a former patient with multiple personality disorder. I really liked that you dont know who the real killer is until the very end. The abandoned mental hospital is really scary-looking. Didn´t get it but will look one more time. It´s an odd film and you want to know how it ends. May be because of myinadequate English I missed the point. My wife bought this and I had never heard of it.
